Oh, Oh, Oh - I'm on Fire (Johnny Cash?)

I headed out Tuesday night to get a pizza. The Sugar Bowl was on, it was the first day back to work and cooking made me feel like crying. Our favorite pizza place had been closed for days - and so I decided to run out and grab a pie.

As I got to the intersection where I turn, I notice the car next to me APPEARED to be on fire. The backseat was full of smoke and while I was contemplating, the driver lept out- and ran over to the other side of the street and ducked back down behind the brick wall by CVS. I didn't blame him - I was thinking at any minute that car was going to blow! I inched up closer to the light and away from the car and finally was able to pull forward and go.

I went down a 1/4 mile - was in Vito's like a minute and a half and went back the 1/4 miles to the intersection, where I was greeted with this:

You can see the empty space to theright of the car ... that was where I was at just a mere 3 minutes before ... That dog gone thing had erupted in flames! By the time I got back around to it- the doors were open, things were melting and dripping out of the car and I could hear little explosions like fireworks- which I think MAY have been the gastank. I could NOT get through that light and away from it fast enough.

AMAZING how fast a car can burn. We drove back by it last night when we went to dinner with a friend and there were black scorch marks on the pavement.

GEE, makes me think twice about parking lot cars in garages!

Exploring Houston: Soto's Cantina- Houston

Soto's Cantina
10609 Grant Rd., Houston, Texas

Ah ... deliciousness! I am ALWAYS on the hunt for delicious Mexican food and this little visit was BEFORE I decided to go "no fried food" -- cause alas, those deep fried chips are OFF the diet for now!

I went online and was reading some reviews on restaurants in Houston and found one about this resturant which is pretty close to my house. If you are from Houston or have been here for any time, this is the family who used to own the La Parrada restaurant on 1960. They closed it down and opened this one: Soto's Catina.

Soto's outside
It's REALLY cute on the outside and easy to find. When we went in, it was relatively quiet for a Saturday night - but within 30 minutes it was PACKED. That speaks for itself!

We ordered queso right away and it was good. I don't know if it's US and we're just killed our tastebuds with hot stuff or what, but once again, we had to ask for jalapenos on the side to jazz up the queso. Once those were added, we jumped on the train to Flavortown and it was ON. Nice queso!

We got the teeny one
Their menu was GREAT. It was very nice and had pictures and was very descriptive. They even have some $17 steak on it which has apparently won awards, statewide. We didn't get it because I wasn't up for trying the steak AND a new restaurant all at the same time, not for $17!

I decided to go with a combo plate - just a little of everything. My plate also came with a "taco" which was al carbon- which just means like fajita meat as opposed to ground beef. Well this was ONE FANCY taco with queso and everything poured over it. Well ok, I'll take it! The beans and rice, which are usually the REAL test were EXCELLENT --- and we would totally come back to this place! I also ordered a chicken enchilada to really test it out because traditionally, I don't dig chicken in mexican food (except for fajitas).

Rice, beans tamale and chicken enchilada

Super fancy taco
This was a great place and we'll be back! I recommend it and I'm sure the 200 people that were in there with us will recommend as well! The only bad thing was, upon getting home, we found out Whitney Houston had died and that will probably forever stay with me. Every time I go in here I will probably think about her. It makes me sad and sad/delicious Mexican food don't mix.

Check out these cute, skinny little business cards that DeAnna discovered...we just had to have some made from recent portrait sessions to test them out. The printer, Moo.com, can even print a different image on each card in the order, very cool when we want to show off our portfolio.

If you see your portrait here and want to snag a card, track down DeAnna because she isn't letting Tim have any of these yet...haahaha!

We can even have these made up for your event so your guests know how to see photographs online...we think they'd really be cute as little coupon cards too.

now that's a group photograph! - Denver event photography

Earlier this summer we were asked to create a large group photograph for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers as they visited Denver for their conference. With a group of nearly 300, and the client requring a strong vertical orientation on the photograph to match the magazine layout with an outdoor theme, we had our work cut out for us! Unfortunately we couldn't move the group's schedule or location to allow for a Colorado mountain background (the sun would have been in their eyes at 8am!) so we opted for the gorgeous green Inverness Golf Course at the Inverness Hotel and Conference Center.

With the sun behind everyone, we had to light the enormous group. Our assistant Gary set up two large portable monolights on 12' stands with 6' diameter photo umbrellas to spread the light. Talk about putting a sail in the wind! These umbrellas swayed back and forth but held firm to the ground for us. Tim ascended 20' in a scissor lift and bellowed out his instructions to the crowd, keeping them attentive and somewhat entertained for the whole shoot.

We photographed the image just a little wider than you see below so the graphic designers would have room for their logo and cropping as needed. The 12 megapixel image worked great for publication resolution.

Ultimately we conducted some minor post-processing artwork to replace a couple faces who were blinking or looking away with a great face and send the final product to our client within two days so they could meet their publishing deadline!

It's always fun to see the final product come together in the final published copy and rewarding after all the work that goes into making an image like this.

Tess and Michael's wedding bash at the Cheyenne Mountain Country Club could only be described as glamorous. Everything was perfection: the red and black color scheme, Tess's romantic updo, the sparkly crystal decor, the whimsical cake topper... but especially the happy couple! We even had a visit from a momma bear and her two cubs at the end of the night. What a memorable way to end a memorable evening!

A very excited Tess gets into her gown.

So pretty!

There's a very cool, old school men's bar in the clubhouse. Michael requested that we get a few Rat Pack style guy pictures in there.

Beautiful floral decor by the very talented Rhonda Nichols.

The cake topper was a humorous nod to Michael's hockey fanaticism.

Beautiful couple!

The best part of this picture is Tess's brother (far right). He's hilarious!

Tess's dad and brother wore matching Green Bay Packers rings. And check out the cheese tie!

I traveled all the way to Casper, Wyoming to document Bill and Chelsea's wedding at the Three Crowns Golf Club, and it was SO much fun! They have some crazy friends! Since I've never been to Casper, it was even more fun for me to shoot, because I love working in new locations. We ended up with perfect weather and a beautiful sunset during the ceremony. The next morning we wandered around downtown Casper and created some amazing bride and groom portraits to boot. Chelsea and Bill, I had a blast! Thanks for having me -- I enjoyed every minute!

Completely spontaneous moment -- so glad I captured it!

The morning after the wedding we did a Day After Shoot, cruising around downtown Casper for some fun portraits.

Love this bright red wall!
